Daniel Upenieks, CPA, CA

After graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with specialization in Accounting, Daniel became a CPA, CA in 2018.  He has over ten years of experience in public accounting, working at mid-size North American firms focusing on audit, assurance, tax and advisory for small to medium-sized privately-held companies.

Over the years, Daniel has developed strong knowledge in manufacturing, logistics, distribution and other industrial verticals.

He joined Stern Cohen in 2024 as Senior Manager and will help lead Stern Cohen’s Assurance Practice providing audit and review financial statements to our owner-managed business client base.

When he is not at the office, Daniel likes to golf, travel and spend time with family and friends. He recently accomplished a bucket list goal: visiting all thirty Major League Baseball stadiums in North America! His favourite stadium? PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – home of the Pirates.

What attracted you to public accounting?

It’s a tremendous learning opportunity. I like working with diverse clients and colleagues on a wide range of projects. The variety presents a unique challenge every day and I get to apply and develop different skills.

What do your clients and co-workers appreciate about you?

I’m responsive, open-minded and honest.

What’s the most rewarding thing about being an accountant?

I love being able to provide knowledge and expertise that a client wouldn’t normally have at hand. I also appreciate the opportunity to be a mentor for other team members.
