Effective January 1, 2015, the Canadian government increased the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) from $100 to $160 per month for each eligible child under the age of 6. In addition, a new UCCB payment of $60 per month was also introduced for each eligible child aged 6 through 17.
Although these changes were effective January 1 of this year, the first enhanced payment will be issued on July 20, 2015. This payment will also include a retroactive lump sum for the period covering January to June 2015.
This means that Canadian families will receive a retroactive lump sum of $360 for each child up to the age of 18 on July 20th. Coupled with their July payment, most families can expect to receive either $420 or $520 per child next Monday!
If you are already receiving UCCB the increase will apply automatically, but if you have never applied for or received this benefit you can find out more and apply on the Canada Revenue Agency website via this link.
