Clients look to Mike for his more than 16 years’ experience providing advisory and assurance to privately-held and owner-managed businesses in the Greater Toronto Area. His down to earth and helpful manner allows him to form a close relationship with his clients, better understanding the needs of their businesses.
After graduating from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Mike obtained his CPA, CA designation in 2006. Ever since, he has held increasingly senior positions at small and large accounting firms working with a broad range of clients from industries including:
Mike is in charge of Stern Cohen’s professional standards. He’s ideally suited for this role as prior to joining Stern Cohen, Mike assisted CPA Canada for three years as Research, Guidance and Support Principal – focusing on assurance standards and providing industry thought leadership in areas of strategic importance to the Canadian CPA Profession and in response to changing business markets. In 2020, Mike was selected to become a member of CPA Canada’s Small and Medium-sized Practices Advisory Committee. With his unique combination of knowledge and foresight, Stern Cohen is thrilled to have Mike on the team.
In his spare time, Mike is passionate about sports, especially baseball. During the summer he can be found playing competitive slo-pitch or attending a Blue Jays’ game.

What’s the most rewarding thing about being an accountant?
I really enjoy talking to business owners. Listening to their needs allows me to help them achieve their goals. Seeing my clients succeed is the ultimate reward!
Do you have any interesting hobbies?
I play the guitar and I also collect guitars. I currently have fourteen in my collection!
