Melanie is the Manager of Stern Cohen’s Not-for-Profit Practice. Her accounting career has taken her from Toronto to Sydney, Australia and back again. Along the way, she gained strong expertise working with public accounting firms and in industry.
Melanie began her career in assurance, achieving manager level before branching out into roles focusing on management accounting, reporting and analysis. Her industry experience includes work with a large Australian university, a telecommunications company, and Qantas Airlines.
Melanie graduated from York University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Administrative Studies (BAS) Honours, with an Accounting specialization. Melanie earned a spot on the Dean’s Honour Roll.
Outside of working hours, you’ll find Melanie enjoying nature and fresh air: walking, hiking, cycling and snowboarding. While Down Under, Melanie became a certified yoga instructor.
What made you want to join Stern Cohen?
I feel that working with the not-for-profit sector enables me to make a contribution to important community initiatives. I was also attracted to the team building aspect of this role and working with Laura Gay.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your role at Stern Cohen?
Adding value to the organizations we work with. Relaying accurate financial information to our clients empowers them to make better decisions.
What do clients appreciate most about you?
I’m easy going, yet professional. My aim is to collaborate with clients to help them reach their goals.
